The introduction to this topic for our class is very intersting. Before this posting on our class web I had no idea that there was a difference. Side note I'm learning so much in this class and being exposed to technology that I didn't even know existed.
The three links that we were given to view the differences between Web 1.0 & Web 2.0. The first one with advergirl I thought explained it pretty good. The visuals and the breakdown worked well for me. I still was a bit confused, but the video really helped me with the full grasp and difference of Web 1.0 & Web 2.0.
The benefits of web 1.0 are like most sites they are all informational and they are specific to your need. I don't really see any drawbacks other then not being interactive. Benefits of web 2.o is definetly the vast up-to-date information. If you just need to get information right away. A drawback I think on the educator side would be if you didn't provide guidance to your students if you were using a certain platform

Twitter is the latest and greatest I had been hearing about. Particularly on the news station Fox 5 in MD they always say, they are on Twitter. Come check us out on Twitter. I was curious, but never investigated. With taking the class Twitter was one of the sites we had to explore.
I'm not quite sure if I understand the full capacity of what it does or can do. I find it a little confusing, but maybe I need to use it a little more. It's a social network, but I think it could be used in the classroom using it as a collaborative lesson probably if you are studying a certain subject. The fact of getting up to date information is a positive. The negative side via educational planning, I think, would be keeping the students focused or on task.
I have some more work to put in on Twitter, but I can see it's potential.

Privacy Matters for me
In this process of researching the various sites given to us to explore for instructional classroom use has really gotten me to look within myself. I think with the advancement of Technology and the exposure of the social networks. My privacy is something that to a degree is not really mine anymore. With each site you sign up with your name, email think of a user name etc. and as I experience these sites (Face book, Twitter, etc.) and I get the status updates of my friends and they get to see my status updates. I see why I haven't jumped on the band wagon of the advancement in technology. I really understand that I'm a private person and this takes on a whole new dimension of being expose.
I like on Face book finding friends from high school, but I don't see the need for them to know what I'm doing every second or what they are doing or who's friends now etc. These things I realize I'm going to have to work out myself and try step out the box. I also with each site will have to see what privacy options are offered. I know it is something I will just have to work out for myself.

The phenomenon of Facebook is it really all that. This class has finally broken me down to join and see what the hype is about Facebook. As I am truly being exposed to the various sites I have and have not heard of. The Social Networking is becoming more popular. I remember hearing about Facebook a few years ago when it became an issue about keeping teens safe. Then another year there was news about students posting pictures and videos on their page and that it would come back to haunt them when they were applying for jobs because now future employers are checking potential employees Facebook and My Space pages. Most students don't think of the future when they are posting these types of items they are just posting for fun.
As I see this is a great tool to keep in touch with friends, family, etc as educator I don't
see this as being a tool that can be use in the classroom. The article that was posted for
us to read where the teacher wanted to make everyone a friend was definitely not a good
idea. There are many other options to construct the type of platform he was seeking for
results with his class.

Blogging Part 2
The blogg process as I see it can be a very positive and productive tool for teachers using it in the classroom. Just how this class (Digital Media) was constructed with Professor Vogel creating
a Blog page for the class. Having the one main blog and everyone creating their own blog,
having the various topics for reading, posing questions, commenting on the readings and
also posting on our personal blogs. I think blogging could be used at any grade level and with any subject as long as there is some guidance for the students to maximize their experience.
The negatives I find with Blogging would be how do you help a student similar to my
situation, who is participating, but not really participating. They may read the articles,
post a comment here and there. How do you challenge the student to participate or rather
get feed back from the student to see if they are having any difficulties. Maybe there is
only fear or underlying embarrassment going on with the student. Would that even be a
problem with the students of today with them being Digital Natives. Is it just a challenge
for the Digital Immigrants or (post secondary students). I also think blogging is useful with the integration of other resources. I recently took a class on creating a Web Quest. Within the Web Quest one of the assignments I created for the class was for the students to create a blog and post comments on their findings and feelings on the subject they had to research.

Blogging
To Blog or not to Blog that is the question.
As I realize my time for the class is ending and I have participated, but not participated. I find my self having to put my thoughts on the screen. As my introduction stated, which is my only blog posting so far, I took this class to get familiar or up to speed with various technology uses for the classroom. As an educator I think it is important to have a variety of instructional methods for the students of today. As I have been in the background reading the articles and reading the comments and experimenting with various sites. I believe my fear of the unknown has taken over and I have not participated like I should have along with I didn't know what I was doing. I realize through this process one of the first articles we had to read was Marc Prensky's "Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants" I find myself to be a Digital Immigrant. In particular with Blogging to be a first timer there are so many emotions involved for me and maybe not for everyone else. How long should it be? What do I say? Will I sound smart? Am I blogging right? Will people understand my postings?

Introduction
Hi All: My name is Javon. I'm a in the Intensive Masters program for Technology and Education. I'm taking the class to get up to date on technology and learn the various sites that people are using for personal and educational reasons. I'm not currently teaching, but when I get back into the classroom I want to be well equipped to with a variety of tech tools to teach my students. We are living in a age where this is part of their daily socialization so to be able to use it in an educational form is great
